Anniversary: Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, Lowell, Mass., will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Feb. 12. The CU has a yearlong celebration planned. The new anniversary logo, which incorporates spindles from former textile mills to illustrate the number 100, is designed to recognize Jeanne D’Arc CU’s history. The CU has six CUES members.
The Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corp., Westborough, Mass., will host its 50th annual meeting Jan. 26, capping MSIC’s 50th anniversary celebration as the nation’s first deposit insurer for credit unions. The meeting will also mark the release of MSIC’s 50th Anniversary Book, a commemorative, full-color, hardcover anthology celebrating 50 years of insuring Massachusetts consumers. The group has three CUES members.
Honored: Bridgeway Federal Credit Union, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., has won the Richard K. Wager Workplace Inclusiveness Award from the Poughkeepsie Journal. This award recognizes companies that, in employment practices and community-oriented programs, reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. The CU has one CUES member.
Fortune magazine announced that Navy Federal Credit Union, Vienna, Va., has been ranked No. 95 on Fortune’s 15th annual list of The 100 Best Companies to Work For. Navy FCU was selected for this prestigious recognition in 2008 and has the distinction of being the only credit union to have ever been selected for the list. The CU has three CUES members.
Three CUES member credit unions were recognized for marketing excellence in the 2011 MarCom Awards of the Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals. Each of these CUs worked with LemmonTree Marketing Group, Tempe, Ariz.
- “I’m a Patriot” TV commercial for Patriot Federal Credit Union, Chambersburg, Pa., by the agency, was recognized with a Gold Award in the Television Single Spot category. The CU has 12 CUES members.
- The 2010 Annual Report for Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union, Clarksville, Tenn., by the agency, was recognized with a Gold Award in the Design/Annual Report category. Also the CU’s retail branch cabinet banner was recognized with an honorable mention in the Direct Marketing/Ads/Banner Sign category. The CU has 10 CUES members.
- The branding elements for Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union, Jersey City, N.J., were recognized with an Honorable Mention in the Strategic Communications/Marketing Promotion Campaign/Branding category. The CU has two CUES members.
Community Involvement: Altura Credit Union, Riverside, Calif., helped raise funds for the Pediatrics Unit at Riverside County Regional Medical Center by decorating a Christmas Tree that was “sold” as part of the 22nd annual “Festival of Trees.” The five-day event, held at the Riverside Convention Center, attracts more than 25,000 people to see the 50 uniquely decorated trees. In addition to decorating and sponsoring a Christmas Tree, Altura CU also sponsored trees from 35 schools for the “Elves Forest.” The trees in this display are decorated by local schools, with all the ornaments made by the children. The CU has 11 CUES members.
Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., partnered with Michigan State University’s University Housing and Child & Family Charities Capital Area for the 2011 Giving Tree. A Giving Tree was placed in every CU branch in November with gift tags available for selection, each printed with a child’s wish list. More than 100 gifts were brought in by MSU FCU members and $2,309 was donated by members to purchase gifts for the children. MSU FCU staff members volunteered their time to shop for the remaining gifts. In total, the CU provided 149 children with gifts this holiday season. The CU has seven CUES members.
UT Federal Credit Union, Knoxville, Tenn., teamed up with Knoxville Inner City Kids Outreach, Inc. to conduct a two-hour plus financial learning session. “Mad City Money” students took on the role of an adult in futuristic Mad City on Jan. 21. The students were given jobs, income, a family and debt. The challenge? Visit merchants to select housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, day care and other wants and needs while building a budget. The CU has seven CUES members.
