Since 1992, $800 million/27,000-member Windsor Family Credit Union, Windsor, Ontario, has provided community organizations with “The Community 1 Free Chequing Account.” This free checking account ensures that not-for-profit and volunteer organizations’ hard earned funds are not diverted to pay unnecessary monthly fees and service charges. In 2006, the credit union began offering free checking for individual members. And now, Windsor Family CU is expanding its free checking tradition to all existing and new commercial members by offering “The Business 1 Free Chequing Account.”
The account provides commercial members with various features—including unlimited debits and credits, unlimited bill payments, unlimited cash deposits, unlimited online and telephone banking access and the option for paper statements and returned checks--all for free when a minimum monthly balance of $1,000 is maintained in the account. Should the balance fall below the minimum there is a flat monthly fee of $10.
To promote the new product, the CU is offering a special bonus interest of 2 percent for six months from the date of opening on each new commercial account. This promotion runs from Aug. 3-Nov. 30.
The CU has been offering commercial services for 15 years. "The Business 1 Free Chequing is a market leading product that we have added to the series of 'Strictly Business' products and services we offer our commercial members," says Beth Ann Prince, marketing and community investment manager at Windsor Family CU. Some of those other services include loans, merchant services, credit cards and investment, insurance and tax preparation services.
